Florida Seas

The open sea is amazing out here. Lots of fish to catch, friendly sailors, and cheap beer. Well, all fun and games till your best friend start throwing up because he is seasick. RIP his stomach.

If you ever decide to travel down to South Beach, Florida, rent a boat (private preferably) and go fishing with family or a couple of your friends – It’s a great experience! Be sure to fish in the morning time. This is a great time for King Mackerals, Barracuda, Mahi (occasionally), etc, come out and bite. Since the boat is private, there is no concern for space to sit, rest, or fish. Best part, we got to bring our dog along for the ride! Once you make it back to the docks, you can filet and debone your fish for no cost. All together, for just one boat, private, was around $500 before tax. You’re looking into about 4 -5 hours of solid fishing!

For our trip, we caught about 6 fish. 5 King Mackerals and 1 Bonito.

The King Mackerals we kept, but we decided to give the Bonito to the Captain so he can use it for future bait. For any beginners, give up your Bonitos. They are not good to eat. They are mainly used for bait. No worries, the 5 King Mackerals we caught can feed our whole family for two nights. That’s 16 people and a dog!

All in all, it was quite the experience and a great workout. We learned so much from the captain, and he is a Maryland man! What are the odds? We cooked these beauties and our dog even had his own plate. He left no scraps. Good dog.
