Diode Dynamics/Winjet Foglight Kit

First, I want to introduce how I was brought to complete this unnecessary but possible combination. I was driving late at night, on a public road, and was turning into the highway when I encountered a raccoon. As hopeful as I was at the time, the raccoon was making its way across the street and I slowed down to give it time. As I was speeding up as it was out of the way, it decided to move back and made contact with my front bumper. I drove all the way hope to find out that my front foglight bezel is missing and the foglight frame arms have broken off. This was VERY unfortunate, but that’s the past.

What I kept on my car, previously installed were:

 – H11 foglight harness with connectors

– Stainless steel mounting hardware set (4 screws, 4 wing nuts, 4 washers)

– 4 T-Tap wire connectors

The new hardware I installed were:

– 2 H11 Yellow Glass-lens foglight assemblies, (interchangeable left and right), with 55W H11 halogen bulbs

– 2 Gloss Black Fog/turn bezels (left and right side)

If you have read this far, YES THIS WORKS. I took this path because I hated how the insides of the Diode Dynamics foglight assemblies got dirty very quickly. I also wanted the yellow glass on the foglights for a cleaner look (with LEDS On and Off) and the gloss bezels to match with my raven black paint.

Installation took only 20 minutes and I love how it looks. To those who aren’t following my instagram, my new tires are in and the wheels are coming soon!

Two years

The big TWO. I have gotten to a point in my life where I realize that I am growing up.

Backtrack to a younger me, I made plenty of mistakes and I am glad to have had those experience to learn and grow. My beautiful girlfriend entered into my life two years ago, on September 5th, 2015. It all started with an unintentional Skype video chat – I’ll get into details about that at a later time.

With the two years we have been together, I can our relationship is not perfect. We have had fights, unnecessary arguments, and tears shed. We have had wonderful dates, smiles all day, endless laughter, and unconditional love. What we have gone through, these past two year, have built us to where we are now. I have no regrets. I know that being with this girl is the one decision in my life that was right. How do I know? I can feel it in my gut.

Thank you for the wonderful two years, and for many more to come, my beautiful angel.

The groove of the train

I own a car and take a train. Why, you may ask? The fact that I like to preserve my car as much as I can, which involves me taking the train. This puts little to no mileage on my car every day.

At my old job, I had to travel 100+ miles collectively each day. That’s a lot of stress on a car – on a sports car. In the end, I actually save money this way. Less money I have to spend on gas, low-mileage, and I can sleep on the train whenever I get sleepy from work.

The stigma of taking the train is a little weird and confusing on the east coast. We have multiple train systems that take us from point A to point B. We have the MARC train and the metro. No, they are not the same.

I feel more comfortable taking the MARC train, given the fact that the seats are more spread out and comfortable. The metro is a bit grimy and has those moments where you don’t want to fall asleep. Honestly, it’s the Peace of Mind that correlates with my decision of commute. Also, from where I live – the MARC is a MUCH faster commute (measured by time of travel). I save near almost an hour of commute time and even the hassle of being stuck in traffic. The worst delay I have ever experienced on the train was at least a 5 minute delay. You can’t beat that.

I love my share of driving my car and having my “zone” to sing to mediocre classics – but I rather catch up on my sleep. Don’t worry, the train has both quiet cars and cars with a “stop alarm”. The quiet cars are an introvert’s best friend. As for the other cars, you have the conductor announcing each stop by name – you can’t miss it. Me, being able to sleep through an earthquake (yep, this has happened before),  the regulars cars are good for me to sleep and wake me up in time for my stop. Happy me!

If you are looking for a better commute experience, and you have the opportunity, commute to work by train. Those who take the metro, good on yah. I’m kidding, it’s not all that bad.*

You’ll be surprised how much easier your commute can be. Especially those who work in DC, no one likes getting stuck in DC with lots of cars, rediculous speed cameras, and magician potholes.

Happy commuting!

* It’s that bad.

Saying Goodbye

It’s a little weird, moving from job to job so quickly. I was just getting very close my coworkers and things we finally picking up after many ideas and decisions.

Things are looking up for the progress of my career. I get to work at a Fortune 500 company everyday, I have a beautiful girlfriend that supports me every step of the way – going the extra mile by getting her degree and working at the same time, a tough, motivating family that has my back, and you, the reader.

My stories are meant to tell you my experiences of life. What I have gone through or am going through, which may hopefully help those that are trying to find out what to do. It’s not an easy process, believe me. Especially without a degree, but this is where you have to pick it up 100 times more.

I’m blessed, and so should you. You have a chance to live, plenty of time to succeed, and lots of room for error. But hey. I’m just getting started.

Legsport Duckbill Install

Finally. The day has come to install this beauty. Below, I will go over every step I took to install the Legsport Duckbill (since no one has made a DIY yet.)

I will also post this DIY to the FT86 forum for a second reference.

Things you will need for the installation:

  • Microfiber Cloth(s)
  • Detailing Spray (Meguiar’s: Quik Detailer)
  • 3M double-sided mounting tape (Might be provided with purchase of Duckbill)
  • Optional: A friend to help
  • Time of Install: 5 – 30 minutes

Step One: Clean and make sure that no residue or packaging material is on the Duckbill. I suggest using Meguiar’s: Quik Detailer and a microfiber cloth (shown in step three). These will do the best job possible for getting anything off the Duckbill.

Step two: Prepare the duckbill by taping along the edges and curve crease. Be prepared to use all the tape provided! As you can see, I was given enough tape just to tape the important parts of the Duckbill, so please follow my tape pattern for optimal fitment.

Step 3: Once Duckbill has been prepped, proceed to clean the surface area of the trunk to prevent from any residue getting onto the tape of the Duckbill. We don’t want anything getting in the way and create a pocket for wind to get in! Again, I recommend Meguiar’s: Quik Detailer and a microfiber cloth to clean this area.

Step 4: Now that you have the surface cleaned, Duckbill cleaned and prepped with tape, and your helping buddy is ready – you can now proceed with placing the Duckbill onto the trunk. Be sure to remove the tape cover before placing the Duckbill on the trunk. This is where teamwork and communication is needed so that the Duckbill is placed on properly.

Step 4.1: I’m sure most of us may not have a buddy available to help and are doing the install ourselves. That is okay! I did this install myself and was relieved to know that this install was easy. Before removing the tape cover, place the Duckbill onto the trunk and position accordingly. Once positioned, lift the duckbill slightly so that you can remove the tape cover as you are firmly pressing the Duckbill onto the trunk.

Step 5: VIOLA! You have successfully installed your new Legsport FR-S/BRZ/TOYOTA86 Duckbill. Please be sure to secure the Duckbill by pushing down on the areas taped down to ensure that the tape makes contact with both the trunk and the Duckbill. Apply moderate pressure. I recommend giving the tape 2 – 3 days to settle before going on the roads. Unless you are a Dare Devel like me, you wait a day and drive up to 80 MPH/129 KPM (Legally, of course). Don’t be me.

You might be asking yourself “How does he know how to install Duckbills?” Well, I don’t, but that’s the fun part to modifications! If you have any questions or concerns or possibly made a few mistakes along the way, feel free to contact me and I will answer any questions you have.

Florida Seas

The open sea is amazing out here. Lots of fish to catch, friendly sailors, and cheap beer. Well, all fun and games till your best friend start throwing up because he is seasick. RIP his stomach.

If you ever decide to travel down to South Beach, Florida, rent a boat (private preferably) and go fishing with family or a couple of your friends – It’s a great experience! Be sure to fish in the morning time. This is a great time for King Mackerals, Barracuda, Mahi (occasionally), etc, come out and bite. Since the boat is private, there is no concern for space to sit, rest, or fish. Best part, we got to bring our dog along for the ride! Once you make it back to the docks, you can filet and debone your fish for no cost. All together, for just one boat, private, was around $500 before tax. You’re looking into about 4 -5 hours of solid fishing!

For our trip, we caught about 6 fish. 5 King Mackerals and 1 Bonito.

The King Mackerals we kept, but we decided to give the Bonito to the Captain so he can use it for future bait. For any beginners, give up your Bonitos. They are not good to eat. They are mainly used for bait. No worries, the 5 King Mackerals we caught can feed our whole family for two nights. That’s 16 people and a dog!

All in all, it was quite the experience and a great workout. We learned so much from the captain, and he is a Maryland man! What are the odds? We cooked these beauties and our dog even had his own plate. He left no scraps. Good dog.

Scooters

Having a great time with these 50cc scooters! For those of you that aren’t familiar to the cc measurement – it isn’t that fast of a scooter. However, it is very fun to ride!

6 of us riding down to Fort Lauderdale and the view is amazing! I wish I stopped by a took a picture but we were on the move.

Best part, all 6 scooters costed less than $200 for the whole day! Groupon is GOAT.

As I lay here, FaceTiming the love of my life – I am missing home. And the fact that I have car parts waiting for me to install once I get back. Tomorrow will be a better day – my older brother’s is growing a year older and that means lots of food and fun! I guess I will say it early, but…. happy birthday big bro!

Family reunion

We made it! It’s not as sunny as we thought it would be. It’s raining. It’s pouring. More or less, there are old men snoring.

The beach house is wonderful, because we are near the shore and say hi to the people to boat down the strip. The best part to this vacation, is that our labradoodle is getting so much attention from tourists and locals. He loves it so much! Crazy enough, he has been spoiled a lot – with a $12 meal as the record so far. But, we love him. He’s family and we all eat good.

Today is a simple day – we travel down to south beach to have lunch with the whole family and take a boat tour of the city. The only thing that can top today, is if Bernice from South Beach Tow comes and we get her autograph!

RPMs staggering from 1k down to 400

I hate this. Half the time I feel like it’s gonna stall out from me. Don’t buy an FR-S, ladies and gentleman. (Is it an 86 now?…yeah whatever, i’m kidding.)

Maybe this baby needs a tune. I’ve heard about this ridiculous open tablet that can flash the ECU of the car to help with this issue – maybe keep it at a solid 1k. But for $499? You can kiss my sweet ass before I decide to buy that. Looks like I’ve got a lot to research to figure out a cheaper way of tuning my car.

Besides that, I just recently purchased the Fumoto Oil Drain Valve, which I will install very soon because my oil change frequency is very close to car washes, and a secret new part will be coming shortly after!

I’m excited how things are slowly growing for this car and I’m happy to have a group of friends who have a strong passion for cars. Without their help, installations would take long, YouTube would be my only friend, and I’ll magically screw up and turn my car into a piece o’ shit. Luckily that isn’t the case.

Thank you for those who are currently following my build! For those who are slowly coming in, I also appreciate your time and I hope to show you my wonderful work of art!

Maki Ramen

This is the first time I have eaten ramen, besides out of a styrofoam cup. It looked very close to what you would see in Naruto. Especially those Narutomaki, those fancy pink and white swirl pads,  it’s fish paste that takes pretty good.

A whole bowl of soup, ramen, mushrooms, half a boiled egg, bulgogi, and a strip of seaweed wrap. One must be crazy to not eat this delicacy.

Maki is quite small, the size of a boba shop, but with all the amazing flavors. This might be our designated ramen shop (I’m lying. I’m always willing to try other places).

If you are in the area, give it a try!
