To those who read my blogs, I thank you for your patience. Don’t get me wrong. No one ever said it was easy to run a blog. Obviously, in order to do so, I must provide content to showcase first. I have been gone for the past week and it’s sad to say that I was fighting to figure out what to do when I found out that my office’s contract was due to expire and our time was growing thin to find another job.
I would like to point out that my luck, throughout my endeavors of life, has assisted me with great generosity. My internship Director, Dan, from when I interned at Discovery during my college years reached out to me in regards to an opportunity. An opportunity that could potentially grow into something bigger. Granted, I currently have a Full-Time job making a decent living and could potentially have another contract to continue work. This opportunity is a contract job with similar pay and Full-time; however, the contract is designated to end in a year.
I had a talk with the director, man to man, in understanding the risk to taking this opportunity. To understand that a job will be presented to me if my work can support the company. That has been always been my purpose in life. To quit the talking and get the work done. I lacked this trait at a young age. As I grew older, I worked on it – building my craft. Currently, it is a habit of mine. I can’t stand 50% effort from myself. I can only push for 100% or bust. I see it like this, you have the time work on yourself in life – whether you want to perfect your body as a body builder, perfect your intelligence with math, science, technology, etc, or perfect your craft, whether art, cooking, etc. What do you do with the time given? I hear many of my classmates, whether on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, etc, say that they are grinding, getting money, and flaunting away. To be honest, I applaud that behavior because of the motivation that “shows”.
However, when nothing is to show for it – it all becomes “talk”. Everyone is going out to party, going to the clubs, buying expensive things that we can’t afford, and for what? Are you really building yourself? My best-friend died at the age of 19. He had his time taken away from him, but he is now in a peaceful place. He always told me to keep working hard, as he did – fighting his cancer. He is always on my mind when I have these moments and it makes me want to see progression from my friends too. I want to help those close to me, as he helped me. I don’t want to see those around me fail. However, I do want the bullshitters to stop with their nonsense and take a step back to think about their life.
Could you work hard now for that trip to another country? yes. Could you go now? yes, if you had the money. But the questions come – will you have money when you get back? Will you have a JOB when you get back? Was it worth the time used?
Depending on your purpose and the way you answer those questions will tell you something. As humans, we sometimes need our asses handed to us before realizing the truth. But don’t be late and regret the things you would’ve accomplished in your life – rather than accomplishing something from your wish-list/bucket-list. Please understand that bucket lists are lists of task to do before you die. If you have watched The Bucket List, you would understand more. You have more time than you think. Make the world better, invent something, save the world, build. Otherwise, those people you paid for your flights, hotel stay, event hosts, etc, are smiling all the way to the bank – retiring at the age of 30 because they worked hard getting your money while you enjoyed their amenities. Stay Woke. Be useful of your time.
